Christmas Dinner

On Wednesday 16 December, our catering team will be offering a Christmas dinner to students. To ensure supply meets demand, we will be surveying students during registration this week to find out if they would like Christmas dinner.

The cost of the Christmas dinner will be £5.00 which includes main meal, pudding and a canned drink. A vegetarian option will be available (cranberry and brie parcel instead of turkey). Please ensure students have sufficient funds in their lunch account beforehand, to ensure the smooth running of the queue.

For those who do not want a Christmas dinner, there will be a limited alternative menu available on Wednesday 16 December of jacket potatoes plus a selection of fillings and filled baguettes.

The Energy Coast UTC Wins National Teaching Awards

The awards keep coming...
The Energy Coast UTC has received three fantastic accolades in the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards, AKA ‘the Oscars of the teaching profession’. This is on top of the two national nominations in the TES awards three weeks ago.
We are delighted to announce our three winners.
Kerryann Wilson won the Gold Award as Teacher of the Year in Secondary School. The judges were incredibly impressed with our Vice Principal stating that “Kerryann has an infectious passion for outstanding teaching and learning which serves as the basis of all she does. She mentors new teachers with great success, as well as running online revision sessions and social media study aids for students.”
The school as a whole won a silver award as “Making a Difference - Secondary School of the Year”, the judges were complimentary about our incredible school which has progressed to an outstanding Ofsted report in June 2019. The judges said “Pupils excel at school and it is making a real difference to the lives of hundreds of young people.”
Our Principal, Cherry Tingle, won a silver award as “Headteacher of the Year in Secondary School”. Without doubt Cherry is the leading light in the progress made by the school. The judges agreed stating “She is an inspiring, empathetic leader who always, whatever the personal cost, makes time for everyone.”
As a school we are incredibly proud of all the awards we received, however all this would not happen without our fantastic students who have achieved incredible results and careers. On average, 80-90% of UTC leavers go on to apprenticeships (national 5%), many at higher or degree level. The UTC has 0 NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training) - national 11%. Leavers get apprenticeships because they are well equipped to operate in the working world - they are work ready!
Alongside this our dedicated staff are committed to the outcomes of our students. Staff go above and beyond to ensure that students have success in everything they do.
Barbara Stephens, Chair of the Governing Body stated “Never before has one school won three national teaching awards in one year and this, coupled with our Ofsted Outstanding judgement, is recognition of the superb teaching, the excellent pastoral care and the sheer hard work of every member of staff at the school. The Energy Coast UTC really is a shining diamond in West Cumbria’s crown”
