Energy Coast UTC students are through to Young Enterprise County Final! Details Tuesday, 05 March 2019 Energy Coast UTC are delighted to announce that our Young Enterprise team has won the Customer Service Award at the West Cumbria area Young Enterprise final and been named as the runner-up for the overall competition. They will now move forward to the County Final as representatives for West Cumbria. The West Cumbria event was held on Saturday 2nd March at Dunmail Park, where groups of Young Enterprise Students competed to sell their products to the general public. Young Enterprise is a nationwide charity that supports students to learn more about running and designing businesses. Our students are taking part in the Company Programme, where their company competes on several fronts to be the best company in the whole country. If they can succeed again at the county level, they can go forward to the national competition in June. The Energy Coast UTC students are working under the name UpTech and hand make all their products from recycled and reclaimed materials. Previously, they have sold individually designed laser cut Christmas decorations and Valentine’s gifts made from reclaimed offcuts. At this event, they used old records and turned them into clocks and even cake stands! “It was another productive day of sales for UTC’s latest Young Enterprise team ‘UpTech’, with their stall at Dunmail Park on Saturday. They then presented their business plan and company report at the West Cumbria Area Finals at the Carnegie Theatre in Workington, where they won the award for best customer service, as well as taking the overall runners up position. Therefore, their next challenge is the Cumbria County Finals at the end of the month.” - Mr Rob Phizacklea, Centre Lead for UpTeach “We couldn’t believe how well it went, we had so much positive feedback from our customers, so to win an award and go through to the next round is more than we could have ever hoped for.” - Rhianna Hewer, managing director of UpTech.
