Year 11 theatre trip to London

Dear Parent/Carer,

The English department are delighted to announce the very exciting opportunity for your son/daughter to take part in the Year 11 theatre trip to London in September 2016.

The trip will facilitate the opportunity for students to experience some of the English Literature set texts for the exam first hand in London's West End. This will allow students to embrace the key themes and concepts presented by Hill in the novel 'The Woman in Black' with students participating in a custom made workshop focused upon the characters, themes and
narrative style which students are required to analyse in their exam. Another highlight will be watching a production of Shakespeare's 'Macbeth' at the world famous Globe
Theatre by the Thames, allowing the play to come to life and for students to truly embrace Shakespeare in the theatre as intended. We will also be visiting The Charles Dickens Museum where students will have the opportunity to engage with Dickens's 'A Christmas Carol' manuscripts, examining the social and personal background of the novella and
deconstructing his work, before working on their own Dickens-inspired tales complete with quill pens and ink.

A provisional itinerary for the four day trip is as follows:

Thursday 29th September 2016

Sunday 2nd October 2016

The total cost of the trip will be £410 which is a reduced price as school will very kindly be paying for transport to and from London; this has subsidised the total cost significantly per student. The total price is inclusive of three night's bed and breakfast, three evening meals at local restaurants, all theatre tickets and entry into all of the above attractions.
While in London the executive coach will take us to and from the attractions as required.

There are only 40 student places available on the trip. In order to secure a place students should write a letter of interest outlining why they should be selected, what they believe the benefits would be, as well as any other information that may influence our decision. Letters should be handed to myself by Friday 15th April 2016. Once a place has been
100 will need to be paid by Friday 22nd April 2016. Payment can then be arranged as convenient, providing that the full payment is received
by Friday 1st July.

If you are eligible for support with full or part payment for the trip as your child receives free school meals then please get in touch. Additionally, should you require further information, including how to access a means-tested grant to help fund your child's place on the trip, please do not hesitate to contact me at college on 01900 606466.

We hope that you can also appreciate the tremendous benefits this trip will provide our students.

Yours faithfully,

Kerryann Wilson
