16-19 Tuition Fund 2021/22

16-19 Tuition Fund 2021/22

This statement sets out how Energy Coast UTC is using the 16-19 Tuition Fund from September 2021

What is the 16-19 Tuition Fund?

The 16-19 tuition fund is one off funding for the 2021/22 academic year that is ring fenced to support students and mitigate disruption to learning arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

How will Energy Coast UTC use the funding?

The funding is being used to provide small group tuition for students on a study programme aged 16‑19 in English, maths and other subjects that have been disrupted and the funding will be used to support the tuition activity above and beyond the programmes of education already planned. It is for students who:

  • have not achieved a grade 4 or 5 in English and/or maths
  • have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths, are from an economically disadvantaged background and would need catch-up support.

We will prioritise tuition for students who have not achieved a grade 4 in maths and/or English, then students who have not achieved a grade 5.

Sessions will be limited to three to five (seven in exceptional circumstances) students per group and will be either during the day or after school depending on student need.

The fund will help pay for extra hours for current teachers and learning mentors or external tuition providers to deliver the sessions and examples of some of the tuition support on offer will include:

  • GCSE exam re-sit preparation
  • Functional skills assessment preparation
  • Bespoke subject support/catch-up

Tuition support offered will be based on an individual needs assessment, the identification of an individual starting point, clear learning goals, expectations and outcomes.

Our commitment

The Energy Coast UTC is committed to ensuring the tuition fund is used in accordance with the Government’s guidance on the 16 to 19 tuition fund by:

  • producing this statement setting out how the fund will be used to support the most disadvantaged students
  • publishing this guidance on our website
  • recording the use of the fund, including references to individual students who receive support, the needs of those students, the number of hours of tuition delivered and retain the evidence of the tuition provided
  • deliver the extra tuition and spend the allocated funds in the academic year 2021/22
  • notify the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) of any underspend from the Fund for it to be reclaimed
