Year 10 Curriculum

There is a strong focus in the Energy Coast UTC’s curriculum on local employers, specifically in the energy, engineering and construction industries. Students’ learning is built around projects provided by employers, reflecting real-life challenges that those businesses face.

We expect all Year 10 students to study the following:

Foundation level and intermediate Level KS4

GCSE Subjects

  • English (Language and Literature)
  • Mathematics
  • Science triple award (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
  • French
  • Geography

BTEC

  • Engineering or Civil Engineering and the Built Environment

Wider Curriculum

  • Enrichment
  • (i.e. Combined Cadet Force, Rubgy, Netball, Football)
  • PE

The Year 10 and 11 curriculum follows a well rounded education with extended and enhanced learning. The key emphasis is to ensure all students achieve their potential within the core aspects of STEM, Construction and Engineering in Energy and the core KS4 curriculum including English and Maths. Students will participate in high quality work placements and engage in a programme of extended learning.

Learning is consistently applied to industrial projects, it is cross-functional, integrated and encourages teamwork, communication, creativity and enterprise.

Students engage regularly with representatives from industry and join their peers from post-16 in mentoring arrangements and integrated project teams.
